Encounters of unaccompanied children increased 5 percent. In September, the average number of unaccompanied children in CBP custody was 485 per day.

The busiest sectors were right here in Texas: the El Paso, Del Rio, and Rio Grande Valley sectors.

Del Rio Chief Patrol Agent Jason Owens says the situation at the border is a humanitarian crisis that he and his Border Patrol colleagues deal with on a daily basis.
